Spaciousness: The Leadership Superpower We've Forgotten

Spaciousness, Time Management

At the start of 2025, I set an intention that might seem counterintuitive in our hyper-connected, hyper-busy world: to feel more spacious.

Not just in my schedule, but in my mindset, my leadership, my way of moving through the world.

It started with a yoga workshop. Deepened through books like The Courage to Be Disliked and The Anxious Generation. And now, it’s something I see in nearly every conversation I have with founders, leaders, and business owners:

🔥 We're more connected than ever, yet we’ve never felt more disconnected—from ourselves, our creativity, and our true potential.

The Myth of More: Why We’re Always "On"

Remember life before phones buzzing 24/7? Before our creativity was constantly interrupted by Slack notifications, emails, and "just a quick ping"?

That wasn’t just nostalgia. That was actual focus.

But somewhere along the way, we bought into the illusion that:

▶️ Multitasking makes us more productive. (It doesn’t—our brains just rapidly task-switch, which kills focus.)

▶️ Being busy = being valuable. (Nope. Impact ≠ activity.)

▶️ Control = effectiveness. (If you’re doing everything yourself, you’re probably a bottleneck, not a leader.)

And research backs it up:

📌 The average worker is interrupted every 11 minutes, and it takes 23 minutes to refocus.

📌 Multitasking reduces productivity by up to 40%.

📌 89% of professionals admit to wasting time daily.

📌 Knowledge workers spend 28% of their workweek just managing email.

So, if you feel stretched thin, constantly reactive, and like there’s never enough time—it’s not just you. The way we’re working is broken.

delegation, control, micromanagement

The Leadership Trap: “If I Step Away, Everything Falls Apart”

One of the most common things I hear from my coachees:

“I'm not sure how I can delegate. No one has my brain. If I step away, things will fall apart.”

Sound familiar?

Working parents also feel this acutely. The constant pressure to be everywhere, do everything, respond instantly—it's creating a low-grade, persistent anxiety we’ve normalized.

And the numbers don’t lie:

📌 60% of working parents report feeling chronically stressed.

📌 Working mothers spend an average of 14 extra hours per week on unpaid labor.

📌 43% of highly qualified women leave their careers after having children.

📌 Burnout rates have skyrocketed 33% since 2020, with working parents hit the hardest.

We’ve been sold the myth of hyper-productivity, when what we actually need is more space, more strategic focus, more intentional leadership.

digital overload, overwhelm

The Digital Overload: We’re Always Half-Doing Everything

Technology isn’t the enemy. But we’ve lost the ability to create tension and release—what architects call "tensegrity". We exist in a constant state of friction, never fully present, always half-doing everything.

The impact?

📌 The average person checks their phone 96 times a day.

📌 We consume 5x more information daily than we did in 1986.

📌 77% of professionals have experienced burnout in their current job.

📌 Stress-related productivity losses cost businesses $300 billion annually.

We weren’t meant to operate like this.

What If Spaciousness Was a Leadership Strategy?

What if we built more breathing room into the way we work, lead, and live?

Imagine:

Leading with calm intentionality instead of reactive urgency.

Delegating from a place of trust, not control.

Using AI to amplify human potential, not replace human connection.

Designing time the way the Louvre designs its galleries—with space to think, to appreciate, to create.

As we step into 2025, I’m inviting you to rethink your relationship with time, energy, and leadership.

What if you stopped optimizing every minute—and started creating more space?

If this resonates, join me for a 2-hour interactive workshop where we’ll go deep on:

Pinpointing energy drains and reclaiming focus

Prioritizing high-value work that actually moves the needle

Creating more spaciousness in your schedule—without burnout

Your time is your most valuable resource. Let’s start treating it that way!
